The Müller lab is the “wet lab” part of the pediatric pneumology research group at the University Children’s Hospital, Inselspital Bern (lead by Prof. Philipp Latzin). We work on many different aspects of the innate immunity of the respiratory tract with a special focus on the improvement of the diagnostics for primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), the understanding of disease mechanisms of PCD and the effects of treatments, the impact of air pollution on the innate respiratory immunity and the role of the innate epithelial immunity in viral infections and the effects of different treatments. Furthermore, the influence of early-life nutrition on the gut microbiome and the immune system is investigated (by Dr. Remo Frei). The more clinical and epidemiological research of Philipp Latzin’s group focuses on the development of new lung function techniques and non-invasive markers of airway inflammation.
