The research of the Medová group within the Radiation Oncology lab at the University of Bern and Inselspital Bern focuses on cancer radiotherapy resistance, modulation of DNA damage repair pathways in tumors, and various aspects related to the crosstalk between the DNA damage response and oncogenic kinase signaling. Our preclinical and early clinical studies aim to answer questions associated with the identification of molecular targets, which could plausibly be employed as radiosensitizers in therapy for solid cancers. Of special interest are tumor entities with underexplored drivers and molecular mechanisms that contribute to metastatic spread and cancer recurrence post (radio-)therapy such as head and neck squamous cell carcinomas. Experimental approaches involve both classical methods of molecular and cellular biology as well as omics-based techniques (genomics, phosphoproteomics, single-cell measurements) and their integration.
