The Molecular Hematology Group, founded in 2023, specializes in molecular genetic research focused on hematologic neoplasms and hereditary blood disorders. In collaboration with the Clinic for Hematology UKH-HZL, as well as various cooperation partners, we provide genomic diagnostics support in research, development, training, and education initiatives.
Our research is oriented towards practical applications and developments, particularly in the context of routine diagnostics. We utilize a range of molecular genetic analysis techniques, including quantitative PCR, digital PCR (ddPCR) and next generation sequencing (NGS). In addition to pursuing our own research projects, we offer project-specific analytics and result evaluations.
We are part of the BLOOD Cluster within the Department of Hematology (UKH-HZL) from the University Hospital, as well as the BLOOD Research Program of the Department of BioMedical Research (DBMR) at the University of Bern, where our group plays an active role in the faculty of medicine's study programs, providing opportunities for Master's, MD, or PhD theses.
Beyond our own research, we serve as a partner in genomic diagnostics for hematology, offering support for research projects, development, training, and education. Our focus includes the development, implementation, and validation of new genomic analyses tailored to the needs of clinics, other research groups and clinical trials. Additionally, we support interdisciplinary diagnostic-therapeutic boards and the routine hematologic genomic analytics laboratory at the CGL, aiding in the validation, interpretation, and reporting of molecular analysis results.
